Graduates of such courses still have to enroll and graduate for an MSc course in order to obtain the certified degree.
The goals for the Msc courses
The goals for the Msc courses are to increase the students’ knowledge of occupational psychology, create a better understanding of the various theories and practices in the field and the development of the required abilities for theory, research and practicing occupational psychology. Students are specifically being prepared to the occupational situations involved with the job.
The styles used to teach
The styles used to teach are mostly interactive, involving case studies and workshops in order to prepare the student for the real live situations, he or she will encounter when entering the work floor. Students are encouraged during the course to think and be critical in order to increase their understanding of the matter involved in combination with acquiring the practical skills required.
While the main aspects of occupational psychology are being taught, students are also taught the methodology of researching and how to interpret data. For this purpose often third party's services are used to provide the necessary data. The main focus of the course lies on teaching the students to think analytically and independently. Msc Occupational Psychology courses are always full time covering aspects like personnel selection, general well being, behavior, and research and statistics interpretation. Besides regular courses mostly taught by in house staff, guest speakers are used in order to add to the material used during the course.
Requirements
In order to enroll into a certified Msc Occupational Psychology course a student needs to be in the possession of an upper second class degree or first psychology related degree that is BPS certified.
Having work experience in the field of Human Resources is not a requirement but a definite advantage in order to have a better understanding of the personnel side of the work floor and the issues that revolve around them. Experience like that is valuable to the course and gives the student an edge.
